With PHP for the World Wide Web, Third Edition: Visual QuickStart Guide, readers can start from the beginning to get a tour of the programming language, or look up specific tasks to learn just what they need to know. This task-based visual reference guide uses step-by-step instructions and plenty of screenshots to teach beginning and intermediate users this popular open-source scripting language. Leading technology author Larry Ullman guides readers through the new features in PHP 6, focusing primarily on improved support for handling any language in a Web site. Other addressed changes include removal of outdated and insecure features, plus new functions and more efficient ways to tackle common needs. Both beginning users, who want a thorough introduction to the technology, and more intermediate users, who are looking for a convenient reference, will find what they need here--in straightforward language and thorough readily accessible examples.
DO NOT BUY FROM SELLER!!! Never responded. Cost me $35.Reviewed by Jeff Johnston, 2010-02-04
I waited and waited and waited and sent inquiries and called
customer service... Absolutely NO RESPONSE from seller to my
inquiries or those of Amazon.
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER! HE WILL NEVER RESPOND AND YOU'LL LOSE
YOUR MONEY.
Took Amazon a MONTH to even let me file a claim, and then it was "a
one time exception as a favor"... sheesh!
It takes a month before you can file a claim, three more days after
that to actually be able to enter it online, two days after that
before you get email confirmation, and two weeks after that before
you get your money back... Is that what you call a "guarantee"? Uh
huh. Thanks for a nightmare, Amazon.
It cost me almost TWICE as much to buy a last minute replacement
and who knows if Amazon will step up to the plate and pay for the
excess cost. Legally, it's known as the "cover price", which they
are obligated to pay. We'll see. I'm not holding my breath.
Oh, and that doesn't even count the hours it cost me to find and go
shopping for the replacement. I lost time from work and my day was
ruined. Thanks a lot, seller and Amazon.
I HAVE LOST TOTAL FAITH IN BUYING TEXT BOOKS ON AMAZON.
I'm mad as hell. Can you tell? ;-)
Not the best... Could be better...Reviewed by S. Coutinho, 2010-01-24
Being a little new to programming, I thought this book was for me.
However, I was dissapointed. I have a good working knowledge of
HTML... I had to refer to various other sources to learn...
Definitely not for beginners... Also the layout of text is just too
complicated.
Very useful book!Reviewed by Cynthia Franklin, 2009-12-12
I borrowed this one from the library, and ended up purchasing a copy. This volume is even more useful and readable to me than the PHP for Dummies book!
For the beginnerReviewed by Kjell Inge Sandvik, 2009-11-29
This is a very good book for those who take their first steps into
PHP.
Intermediate and advanced users should buy something else.
1000 Stars. Best PHP Book for Beginners! Period!!!Reviewed by Robert, 2009-11-21
I can not say enough good things about this book. After mucking
around and getting frustrated by several PHP books that were not
written to be understood, I found this book. What a difference.
Larry Ullman is a TEACHER! He takes you step by step through all
the processes and the code. He makes it clear, understandable and
even intuitive. His examples are real world, practical, and useful.
He covers all the theory but with a dialogue that is geared to the
average person. All the scripts are on his web site and he keeps
them corrected and up to date. He even updated against evolution in
the code standards.
Most importantly everything is relevant! Everything works!
Everything is practicable, and everything builds knowledge and
confidence. The chapters build progressively and by the time you
get to databases and MySQL you can't wait to apply it.
His content outline and flow get you quickly to being competent as
opposed to frustrated. You can actually internalize the lessons. He
explains the normal mistakes and tells you how to correct them. His
descriptions of where PHP fits into the whole web process is
crystal clear and eye opening.
No cryptic references, no showing off by injecting other language
syntax, or arcane examples. I could have saved hundreds of dollars
and many months of frustration had I found this book first. Not
only did I learn PHP but I learned how to program and build real
commercial web sites. Plus, it is actually fun.
This book is worth a thousand stars but all I can give it is 5.
Thank you Larry Ullman
